The Coanda Effect and a cool UAV using it.

I have not seen this posted on DIY Drones yet so I thought I'd throw it out as interesting.

Somewhat safer than a quadrotor I imagine but somewhat less maneuverable.

Still interesting though :)

Using the Stars, Sun the Moon and the Horizon rather than GPS

This is a post off the top of my head because I have not looked into it very much but I thought it might be of interest to some so I'll post it anyway.

 I was looking at this:

This is the Celestron "StarSense" an accessory for computerized "GOTO" telescopes. What this does is you…

If you have an opinion on the future commercial use of small unmanned aircraft in the USA you can make your point on the 12th of December.

It should be noted that the committee has not made this process widely known to the small unmanned aircraft community.

Gravity Dev Board another possiable UAV platform?

My friends at Sol-X have developed a Parallax Propeller dev board for use in space but me thinks it has possibilities as a UAV platform! :) The board was used for the "Wormbot" Project that won the NASA contest for development.

The bot wriggles it's way into the ground to take…

GPS Front-End Doppler Position Experiment

I have had some experience with radiosondes which are instruments sent into the upper atmosphere to collect weather data from weather balloons. There has been a lot of weather balloon hobbyist doing high altitude launches getting video and really cool stuff from nearspace. Theses are the real thing and the companies that make these are very good at it.

 2000 of…

Know your sky!

I talk a lot about the FAA and such and my concern for our community so I thought I'd give everyone a look at what's going on in the sky from the view of the FAA. Explain some basic things about flight charts and flight planning.

You can get a look at what's going on above your head and plan better and safer…

A quadcopter is manually flown and from my point of view is not a drone! A drone is capable of flying a "mission" autonomously. A model copter or plane that is…

Optical Tracking

I've made a lot of progress with the Optical Tracking system. Our system is using OpticTracker http://www.optictracker.com/Home.html Here is what we have so far.

My first test was tracking the moon. It worked flawlessly to say the least. In the window on the…
