I have had some experience with radiosondes which are instruments sent into the upper atmosphere to collect weather data from weather balloons. There has been a lot of weather balloon hobbyist doing high altitude launches getting video and really cool stuff from nearspace. Theses are the real thing and the companies that make these are very good at it.
