I've written my own Ardustation software for talking to the APM using MAVLink. The software is based on my previous version (for APM v1.x), which was in turn based on code written by Michael Smith.
On october 1st, 2011, my MAJA drone has done successfully a full autonomous flight under flight plan with the ThermoPilot v5, an updated version of the Arduplane v2.23. Today I maiden my wooden hobbyking Quadcopter and it went fine!
I have flown rc helicopters quite a bit, but that was a couple of years ago. Then i heard an interview with Chris Anderson on Leo Laportes podcast 'Triangulation' and I was intrigued about the drone part of the hobby.

Today I flew my Twinstar with APM in the hotseat. It's the second flight I've had with it wired in, but yesterday I was only using the stabilise mode. It's been a couple of great days from a weather and wind point of view, so ideal for testing. The Stabilise mode is lovely. Just received the plates I ordered at Ponoko and mounted my electronics on it. My measures were good but I chosed to put the xBee on the side instead of on top so I missed two holes for it, fortunately tie wraps saved the day! Next version will account for the new placement of the xBee and protect it better. If people are interested I can upload the eps files for Ponoko after I make some adjustments.
This is only a 1/10 scale, but the suspension and wheels look pretty nice. Check out the website. I would have posted better pics, but it was too huge for the blog. $149.99
I've got two way telemetry working on my Ardustation, talking to the ArduPilot Mega (APM) using the standard BinComm protocol (GCS_PROTOCOL_STANDARD). So far I can edit PID values and check essential mission following data, along with the standard summary of attitude, location and heartbeat data.
This should make life a lot easier, being able to tweak the plane whilst airborne and seeing what it's up to - without being required to sit down…Continue
