I tried the VI again today, and it worked!! No changes! But i guess i should have tested it thoroughly before i posted the query,, my apologies.

You need to download and install the LabView serial drivers.
No the USB to serial converter lists the USB port as a serial COM port in the device manager, Besides it also works with hyperterminal. In labview also in the "choose port i/o" list the com port is available.
I am by no means an expert in thi,but do have some lab view experience. One the desktop labview is talking to a serial port
and a usb on the laptop. Maybe you need change the I/O part of the program to talk to a usb?
People should watch a handheld GPS rec'vr (even a very expensive one) while standing still and watch the numbers dance around, -esp the altitude!

I think you'll find that wireless bandwidth, latency and range will be problems with standard wireless gear like Xbee. Jack Crossfire has done it with a heli, but even that one generated the PWM onboard.
