Hey guys! So 2012 is going to be MyGeekShow’s year of “Technology Aided Flight” where I’ll focus on going from just flying around the field, to full FPV and waypoint supported autopilot. I’m doing…Continue

The beginning - Understanding prop variables for efficient long range flight

http://www.MyGeekShow.comAfter flying the raptor several times with the 8"x4" prop, we felt like we were stuck in 2nd gear not harnessing the full potential of the motor.  We decided to fly the raptor with several different props with a range in diameter and pitch.  This was a first step in figuring out how we will more scientifically analyze the benefits and losses associated…See More

A Rather Painful Maiden Flight

Alright... once in a while a maiden flight doesn't go so well, this is one of those times...Obviously the CG was a little far back and the throws/size on the control surfaces were WAAYYY to big. I'm telling you, it was almost un-flyable. Luckily, a quick repair job and some adjustments and we'll be back in the air.We just got an APM2 in the mail, so when the Shrike is doing the right things we can finally get into some drone action!Until Saturday,-Trent and NickSee More

Flying in the wind & Building the Shrike (A future APM airplane)

Posted on May 5, 2012 at 8:43pm 3 Comments

We did some testing of the Raptor in the wind - stronger than we've ever done before and had some very compelling results: flying wings (or at least the Raptor) do awesome in the wind, i.e. hold a fairly good heading and can withstand most jarring. The Nova in the same situation could have been disastrous.

We also continued our effort to finish the Shrike - a flying wing w/ a fuselage that will be powered by an APM2.

See you…
