Hi,I've been working with an APM2 unit that seems to be rather temperamental. Fix times are very long, (3+ minutes in some cases in the wide outdoors) and logs seem to indicate that the fix can be…Continue

"Thanks for the tip, Jason. The lab isn't equipped with that material, but from the brief research I did just now on Delrin (aka polyoxymethylene or acetal), that does seem like an attractive option for its strength and durability. Widely…"

Profile Information

About Me:
I'm Matthew Schroyer, a developer of small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) for use in journalism. He is the founder of the Professional Society of Drone Journalists (PSDJ), and the website Dronejournalism.org. The mission of that organization and website is to establish the ethical, educational and technological framework for the emerging field of drone journalism.

Full-time, he works on a National Science Foundation grant at the University of Illinois called EnLiST, which offers unique leadership training and professional development for science teachers from grades K-12. There, he performs a variety of duties as a communications specialist and social network analyst. He also is developing the newly-founded “Drones for Schools” program, which teaches high school students the core science and engineering concepts associated with drone technology, which uses the same technology behind the drones of DroneJournalism.org.
Tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I began experimenting with model rockets, RC craft and small electronics when I was young, with varying levels of success. That carried over into studying mechanical engineering in college, before the journalism bug bit me. Now I'm blending those backgrounds, as I'm interested in sUAS as a means to obtain photographic intelligence for the public good.

Above is a photo of one of my latest creations: a solution that houses a five or six-cell LiPo, an APM 2.5 autopilot…

How will you let parents, teachers, administrators and the public know how you're helping education? What kind of…
