DIY Drones

I know i am not following the Ardupilot manual, but i have a 3 channel remote controller that came with the plane i bought. Now i am using this for cost issues. My question is if i can have the plane go into UAV mode when say the receiver stops getting a signal from the throttle. Well i know it can be done but how would that be read in the code? which pin is it coming in? Also, when i go into manual mode is there a bypass part in the code? or how does it know to just listen to the reicever? is there like a jump command? thankd

I think if you are seriuos about this (or any AP) project, you will need to look at a diff R/C system.

I would have to agree. You really need at least a 5ch system (two sticks and a toggle switch) to properly use the Ardupilot.
There are many relatively cheap R/C systems out there. If you really are on a budget and don't plan to use 2.4ghz for telemetry this might be an option.
